Armstrong (1850-1938) helped to found the Woman's Missionary Union in 1888 and served as its inaugural corresponding secretary. A prolific letter writer on behalf of the WMU and its mission, Armstrong once wrote more than 18,000 letters in one year. Armstrong was a key figure in Southern Baptist history because she helped found WMU & served as secretary from 1888 till 1906. During her tenure, total receipts for the Foreign Mission Board increased from $86,000 to $315,000.

Charlotte Diggs "Lottie" Moon(December 12,1940-December 24, 1940) was a Southern Baptist Missionary to China with the Foreign Mission Board who spent nearly 40 years (1873-1912) living & working in China. As a teacher and an evangelist, she laid a foundation for traditionally solid support for missions among Baptists in America.
